Created in 1965, Head Start is the most successful, longest-running, national school readiness program in the United States. It provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.

Your teaching internship may be completed at a Head Start Program in Texas if it meets the following criteria:

a certified teacher is available as a trained mentor;

the Head Start program is affiliated with the federal Head Start program and approved by the TEA;

the Head Start program teaches three and four-year-old students; and

the state's pre-kindergarten curriculum guidelines are being implemented.
